Frequently Asked Questions

This is a permissions issue. The solution is:
  1. Uninstall Passion Audio Player.
  2. Right-click the downloaded installer (passap30.exe or passap40.exe) and select Run as administrator.
  3. Complete the installation. Everything will work correctly from that point.
Delphi is in my opinion the best Pascal tool that exists. However, for a hobbyist developer the proper tool is Lazarus/FPC — the cost of Delphi for multi-platform programming is out of my budget. Lazarus/FPC is also the best tool for hardcore, old-school programmers because you have access to all the code.
Yes, Passion Audio Player is Windows Vista compatible. The latest version was developed on the Windows Vista platform. Note that it does not take advantage of some Vista-specific features, as compatibility with earlier Windows versions was intentionally maintained.
Yes, Passion Audio Player is Windows XP compatible.
Yes, there are two ways to reset sliders:
  1. Double-click any individual slider to reset it to its default value. This has been available since the very first version.
  2. From version 2.4 onwards, go to Options → General Options and click the Default Sliders button to reset all sliders at once.
Yes. To route Last.FM audio through Passion Audio Player:
  1. Open Last.FM Player and go to its Options → Radio settings.
  2. Enable Stream in external player and choose a port (e.g. 32314). Click Apply.
  3. Open Passion Audio Player and add http://localhost:32314 to the playlist.
  4. Play that URL in Passion Audio Player — you should see HTTP/1.1 200 OK on screen, confirming the connection.
  5. Play songs in Last.FM; audio will come through Passion Audio Player.
If it doesn't work first time, close both applications, try a different port, and repeat from step 1. If Passion Audio Player disconnects from Last.FM during playback, simply reconnect.
Passion Audio Player does not support Windows 2000/NT. These operating systems have a different architecture, and the most common cause of the freeze is that DirectX 3.0 or later is not installed. Supported operating systems are Windows 95/98/ME/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 and later.
The file was encoded with a video codec that is not installed on your system. Although the AVI format is common, AVI files can be created with many different codecs. If the required codec is missing, you will hear the audio but see no video. Installing the appropriate codec pack for that file format will resolve the issue.
This error typically means the file was encoded with a video codec that is not present on your system. Installing the appropriate codec for that file type should resolve it.
Playback of WMA, WMV, and ASF files requires the Windows Media Format modules to be installed. These are included with Windows Media Player. Installing or reinstalling Windows Media Player should resolve the issue.
Passion Audio Player only works correctly with skins that follow the official Winamp skin guidelines. Some community-made skins deviate from those guidelines and will not display or behave correctly when loaded by the player.
Passion Audio Player works correctly only with Winamp DSP plugins that return the same amount of audio data they receive. Plugins that alter the data length are not supported. There is no easy way to know in advance — try the plugin and see if it works.
Version 1.3 added WMA support, which requires files from Windows Media Player 7.1 (including wmvcore.dll). There are two solutions:
  1. Install Windows Media Player 7.1 or the Windows Media Format modules separately.
  2. Recommended: Upgrade to v1.4 or later, which handles the missing modules gracefully — the player continues to work normally, just without WMA support.
This issue has been resolved from version 2.3 and above.
On older versions, Passion Audio Player registered file associations manually rather than through the installer. To fix it on older versions: reinstall the player, go to the Extensions tab in Settings, uncheck all file types, click Apply, then uninstall. Your files will be available to reassociate with any application.
